• NEW CITY CHICAGO

  • Situated somewhere between painting and sculpture, Bob Jones' work is a little confounding, difficult to categorize and delightfully strange. In his first solo exhibition at Bill Gross' new apartment gallery, Jones eschews narrative and creates objects that employ the messy ephemera of painting while hinting at common, but iconic, objects. "Well" is a found oversized paint bucket in which a swirling blue "painting" is found at its bottom; "Trophy" is a wall-mounted ball of oil paint with twig "antlers"; and a "Snowball" of white paint and sawdust lies on the floor in no danger of melting.
