- 65GRAND is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Ian Pedigo in Chicago. Suddenly Cast From Grayness features sculptural works and wall pieces made from material collected from an array of sources including magazines, thrift stores and urban detritus. Pedigo uses these discarded fragments to construct seemingly frail objects that allude to graphic and built environments. As concrete recreations of an imagined process, Pedigo's pieces bring together the allure of far away places and a bare assessment of the present state of reality.
- Ian Pedigo was born in Anchorage, Alaska; he lives and works in Long Island City, New York. In 2006 Pedigo had his first solo show, at Klaus Von Nichtssagend Gallery, Brooklyn, NY. Selected group exhibitions include Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, CRG Gallery, The Bronx Museum of the Arts and The Queens Museum of Art in New York. Awards include the Emerging Artists Fellowship from Socrates Sculpture Park in 2006 and the AIM Program at the Bronx Museum of Art in 2005.
- Artist Shannon Schmidt will present a sculptural installation in the hallway. Schmidt is an MFA candidate at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited her work in St. Paul, Minnesota; Madison, Wisconsin and Chicago. This is her first solo project.
